Welcome to my first ever blogging experience-this so called life. My name is Rob Witt and I am excited to finally begin blogging since everyone else is already doing it. It’s about time that my business writing class gave me an assignment to join in doing what the rest of the world does. I am a college student pursuing a business marketing degree. Being a student at Brigham Young University has lead to all kinds of experiences, observations, incites, and outlooks. I hope to convey some of these as well as my thoughts on this so called life. Maybe this blog will one day be entertaining enough to make a movie out of it.
I am only a sophomore in such a huge student body, and you’d think that after being in school for 3 semesters I would have most of it figured out. Not so much-considering only last semester did I figure out that if you want to be anything close to a success, you have to study at the library every day. Not only every day but you have to be there until it closes at midnight and you hear the epic “judgment-day-like” tunes proclaiming that the library is now closing. I figure this has to be symbolic and is basically a type and shadow of your life to see if you are ready. I have also learned that you shouldn’t take Accounting 200 your freshman year, but don’t worry I figured that out 3 years later while retaking it. Whoever has taken this course quickly falls in love with Norm Nemrow the professor. Norm is hilarious and is a great teacher who knows his stuff. You watch his lectures on DVDs which have the option of speeding up his talking to 2 times the normal speed. In class yesterday I noticed I kept trying in my mind to increase the speed of our actual in class lecture-but unfortunately it only works on the DVDs. Maybe someday I will figure that out.
College life introduces new people in all kinds, especially roommates. Roommates-where to begin? Not only is the Utah Jazz going green this year but so is my roommate. I’m not sure what happened to him over the break, since we hung out so much, but ever since the New Year he is all about this green phase. He started by setting up a paper bag to be used as our recycling bin and then filled it with his last semester’s notes and paper. After he stuffed the bag, he threatened me to begin recycling or else…. He just left it at that and went to make a peanut butter and honey sandwich with celery instead of bread.
Are we truly bleeding blue at BYU or do cougars bleed red? Christmas time is amazing; I love everything about it-especially all the Christmas lights. One thing that is great about the campus at BYU is that they do a stellar job of keeping it up to par with all the holidays. The Groundskeepers look up to their competitors at Temple Square and go to town decorating all the trees with lights. But one thing I thought was ironic is that the majority of trees are covered in red lights, not Cosmo blue?! I mean I totally understand that President Samuelson went to the University of Utah and I have nothing against that. But isn’t there enough symbolic subliminal messages in Provo?
